The European Society for Precision Engineering and Nanotechnology (EUSPEN) was founded within the framework of the EU Competitive and Sustainable Growth programme in 1999. In connection with the society’s 10th annual international conference, held in Zürich, Switzerland, in late May, about 30 EUSPEN members visited Fritz Studer AG to find out more about the latest trends and findings regarding cylindrical grinding.
EUSPEN has more than 550 individual members and about 90 company members representing leading industry organizations, universities, and research institutes. The conference-related visit to the Studer facilities was an effort by the organization to promote its proximity to the precision engineering industry.
Studer enjoyed providing the visitors from three continents with broad insight and a programme of specialist talks and presentations of practical applications. The insight supplied by Dr. Fiebelkorn, the head of product development, research, and technology for the company, generated particular interest.
Also impressing the visitors were demonstrations of the S12 production cylindrical grinding machine with linear technology, the S32 machine with high-speed grinding, and the S242 combined cylindrical grinding, hard turning, milling, and drilling unit. Participants in the field excursion additionally were able to see the competitive advantage, confirmed by benchmark tests, offered by StuderGrind grinding programming software.
Contact with the area of science and research is very important for Studer. Schleifring and Studer together annually invest a considerable sum for innovation projects at the Grindaix institute affiliated with WZI Aachen. Studer is also part of Inspire AG, which works closely with IWF at the University of Applied Sciences in Zürich.
In addition, Studer cultivates the next generation of scientists by awarding the Fritz Studer Award research prize.
