Global crude steel capacity utilization rate hit a five-month low in July

According to statistics released by the World Iron and Steel Association on August 22, the crude steel output of 66 major steel-producing countries and regions in the world reached 133.7 million tons in July 2016, an increase of 1.4% year-on-year, and it resumed growth after 19 months. Among them, China It is one of the main driving forces. In terms of regions, crude steel production in Asia, other European countries, the Commonwealth of Independent States and Oceania maintained year-on-year growth, while the European Union, North America, South America, Africa and the Middle East all declined year-on-year, with Africa experiencing the largest year-on-year decline.

In July, crude steel production in Asia was 92.24 million tons, an increase of 2.8% year-on-year. The major steel-producing countries and regions in the region maintained growth year-on-year. Among them: China’s crude steel production was 66.81 million tons, an increase of 2.6% year-on-year; Japan’s crude steel production increased slightly by 0.5% year-on-year to 8.89 million tons, continuing to maintain growth; India produced 8.08 million tons of crude steel, an increase of 8.1% year-on-year; Steel output increased by 1.5% year-on-year to 6.01 million tons; Taiwan, China produced 1.89 million tons of crude steel, an increase of 4.0% year-on-year.

In July, EU crude steel output was 12.99 million tons, down 4.6% year-on-year. Among them: Germany produced 3.39 million tons of crude steel, a year-on-year decrease of 6.1%; Italy produced 2.05 million tons of crude steel, an increase of 6.2% year-on-year; France produced 1.15 million tons of crude steel, a year-on-year decrease of 4.7%. In July, crude steel production in other European countries increased by 7.4% year-on-year to 2.88 million tons. Among them: Turkey produced 2.66 million tons of crude steel, an increase of 6.5% year-on-year.

In July, North American crude steel output was 9.72 million tons, a slight decrease of 0.4% year-on-year. Among them: crude steel production in the United States was 6.88 million tons, down 2.2% year-on-year; Mexico produced 1.65 million tons of crude steel, up 8.8% year-on-year; Canadian crude steel production was 1.14 million tons, up 3.5% year-on-year. In July, South American crude steel output was 3.44 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 9.7%, but the rate of decrease continued to narrow. Among them: Brazil’s crude steel output was 2.71 million tons, down 6.0% year-on-year.

In July, the CIS crude steel output was 8.77 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 2.8%. Among them: Russia produced 6.13 million tons of crude steel, a slight increase of 0.9% year-on-year; Ukraine produced 2.07 million tons of crude steel, a year-on-year increase of 10.5%. In July, crude steel production in the Middle East was 2.23 million tons, down 1.4% year-on-year. Among them: Iran produced 1.35 million tons of crude steel, a year-on-year increase of 6.2%. In July, Africa’s crude steel output was 940,000 tons, a year-on-year drop of 12.6%.

Statistics released by the World Steel Association also show that the cumulative crude steel output of 66 major steel-producing countries and regions in the world from January to July 2016 reached 929.6 million tons, down 1.2% year-on-year. Among them: crude steel production in Asia was 638.7 million tons, a slight decrease of 0.3% year-on-year; crude steel production in the EU was 95.75 million tons, a decrease of 5.8% year-on-year; crude steel production in North America was 65.76 million tons, a slight decrease of 0.2% year-on-year; crude steel in the CIS Steel output was 59.96 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 1.1%; South America’s crude steel output was 22.6 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 13.3%; other European countries’ crude steel output was 20.67 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 3.4%; Middle East crude steel output was 16 million tons, a year-on-year decrease 3.2%; Africa’s crude steel output was 6.91 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 15.6%.

The global crude steel production capacity utilization rate was 68.3% in July, down 3.7 percentage points from June, and hitting a five-month low since March this year, but the same as the same period last year. The global daily average crude steel output in July was 4.314 million tons, a drop of 5.0% from the previous month.
