Versal ACAP is a highly integrated, multi-core, heterogeneous computing platform that can run at the heart of 5G to perform complex real-time signal processing, including sophisticated beamforming techniques for increasing network capacity. As 5G infrastructure requirements and industry specifications continue to evolve, so too does 5G demand for Xilinx’s renowned adaptive computing technology.

In the same spectrum, 5G needs to utilize beamforming technology to transmit multiple data streams to multiple users at the same time, which is also the reason for the dramatic increase in 5G network capacity. However, beamforming technology requires higher computing density and advanced high-speed connectivity (whether on-chip or off-chip) to meet the low latency requirements of 5G. In addition, different system function partition requirements and algorithm implementation schemes also make the processing performance and calculation accuracy more extensive. The biggest challenge for traditional FPGAs is how to effectively address this demand while still meeting thermal issues and system footprint constraints.

Versal ACAPs provide excellent computational density at low power consumption to perform the real-time, low-latency signal processing required by beamforming algorithms. The AI ​​engine in the Versal AI Core family consists of a tiled array of vector processors, a feature that makes it ideal for performing the required math functions, providing high compute density, advanced connectivity, and post-deployment reprogrammability and replayability Ideal for configurability.
